Service Description: This layer was compiled to depict all Critical Habitat for Steelhead and Chinook Salmon in California. The layer represents areas designated for Critical Habitat, in addition to general occupancy approximation. It is best suited for mapping those properties in California. This data was downloaded (http://swr.nmfs.noaa.gov/salmon/layers/finalgis.htm) and compiled on April 6th, 2012 from the following individual shapefiles: NC_Steelhead_CH_06_2005, NC_Steelhead_Distribution_06_2005, CCC_Steelhead_CH_06_2005, CCC_Steelhead_Distribution_06_2005, CC_Chinook_CH_06_2005, CC_Chinook_Distribution_06_2005, SCCC_Steelhead_CH_06_2005, SCCC_Steelhead_Distribution_06_2005, SC_Steelhead_CH_06_2005, SC_Steelhead_Distribution_06_2005. Three fields were added and populated to help identify the source shapefile-- the species, the type of area and the region.
